Getting Around Oahu: A Guide to "TheBus"

Oahu’s public transit system, simply known as TheBus, is the most budget-friendly way to explore the entire island. While it might not be the fastest transit option, it is incredibly comprehensive.

Fares & Payment
  • HOLO Card: Introduced in March 2022, this contactless smart card is the easiest way to pay. Just tap it on the reader when boarding. You can load funds online, by phone, or in person at local retailers like ABC Stores.

  • Cash: You can still pay with cash—$3.25 for a single adult fare or $7.50 for a day pass. Note: Drivers cannot make change, so you must have the exact amount.

Real-Time Tracking

For route planning and real-time GPS arrival times, download the DaBus2 app as soon as you arrive, or visit thebus.org. It’s the perfect tool to find the closest stop to your accommodation.
